WINNIPEG – With the turkey served and the pumpkin pie devoured, attention now turns to Halloween.
While the candy is free for children, it is the adults stuck with the bill.
“In our neighbourhood I can get over a hundred kids,” said Nancy Lim-Crompton, who lives in northwest Winnipeg.
She finds she gets the best bang for her bug by handing out potato chips.
A recent survey done by retailmenot.ca found half of Canadians asked planned to hand out candies on Halloween.
Global News decided to find out where is the cheapest place to pick up your sweets.
We went to Superstore, Wal-Mart and Target searching for a box of 95 mini Cadbury chocolate bars as well as a 1.5 lbs bag of Child Play candy which is different kinds of Tootsie Pop treats.
The chocolates worked out to be $12.83 at Superstore and Wal-Mart. They cost $14.99 at Target.
The bag of candy is $9.99 at Superstore, $10.00 at Wal-Mart and $10.49 at Target.
When taxes are factored in, the final price for all the loot was $24.79 at Superstore, $25.80 at Wal-Mart and $28.79 at Target.
